Vibrant diet with sugar
Sugar offers more than just a function of sweetening foods.
It has many effects in cooking and confectionery, and enriches our diet.
Specific actions
Popularizing inulin, a dietary fiber found in sugar cane
Dietary fiber deficiency
Dietary fiber intake in Japan is about 3 g below the dietary reference intake for both men and women.
Reports have found that dietary fiber deficiency is also related to the risk of lifestyle-related diseases. For this reason, inulin is garnering attention as a “nutrient to take.”
Inulin, a dietary fiber found in sugar cane, is used in commercial baked goods and dairy products because of its natural sweetness and ease of use, making a diet with higher dietary fiber accessible to all.
Does more than just improve gut environment
In addition to its “intestinal regulating effect,” inulin can be labeled as a food with function claims because it suppresses the rise in blood glucose after meals and lowers blood triglycerides, supporting the health of those who are concerned about blood glucose levels and blood triglycerides.
In addition, in 2023, the first “skin barrier” function of dietary fiber was added, and it has been reported that inulin also offers mental health benefits, such as improving vitality, vigor, and fatigue.

Flower education activities
The Keep Department hopes to incorporate the charm and richness of flowers into family life under the theme of a vibrant life made possible with flowers.
The first step is to look at flowers and feel attached to them, thinking they are “cute,” “beautiful” or “nice smelling.”
In order to create an opportunity for children to take the first step, we want them to become familiar with flowers from an early age, and with this in mind, we have been conducting flower education activities since 2009.
Specific actions
Sponsorship of Edible KAYABAEN
We sponsor the “Edible KAYABAEN” project, a rooftop garden that “grows, eats, and learns” operated by Heiwa Real Estate Co., Ltd., Universal Engeisha Co., Ltd., and Edible Schoolyard Japan.

Through the expansion of sales of NIKUVEGE, we will accelerate the creation of plant-based foods that many people want to eat on a daily basis.
Specific actions
Manufacture and sale of long-lasting baked goods with Day Plus (Thailand) Co, Ltd.
We are engaged in the manufacture and sales of long-lasting breads in Thailand together with our partner Marunaka Confectionery Co., Ltd.
Although the confectionery and bakery business has a high rate of food loss and waste, we have achieved a reduction in loss and waste in the distribution process through the manufacture and sale of products with a long shelf life using our proprietary technology.
These products contribute to society as a food that is convenient and easy to stockpile in the event of a disaster.
Extending the life of flowers with KEEPFLOWER
Loss and waste is not limited to food. KEEPFLOWER is a type of flower food that makes cut flowers more beautiful and longer lasting, thereby reducing loss and waste, whether at home or at a flower shop. In addition, KEEPFLOWER also reduces the number of water changes, which helps conserve water resources.
Correlation with the SDGs
Responsible consumption and production
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Specific actions
Reducing cut flower loss and waste and conserving water resources
KEEPFLOWER is a flower food that nourishes cut flowers and prevents spoilage of water simply by adding it to the water in the vase.
By supplying florists and consumers with KEEPFLOWER, we can make cut flowers more beautiful and longer lasting, reduce the loss and waste of cut flowers, and reduce the number of water changes, which helps conserve water resources.

Our electricity is sourced from green electricity generated by Daito Togyo Co., Ltd.
On Minami Daito Island in Okinawa Prefecture, location of Daito Togyo Co., Ltd.’s sugar mill, sugar cane accounts for the majority of the local industry. Sugar cane is an eco-friendly crop that can be used in its entirety, from planting to by-products generated during the sugar production process.
Correlation with the SDGs
Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy
Climate action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Eco-friendly crop of sugar cane!
Sugar cane is considered a C₄ plant among the types of photosynthesis, and regardless of whether the CO₂ concentration in the atmosphere is high or low, it absorbs more CO₂ than other plants, and the speed of photosynthesis is fast, so on a sunny day, it absorbs more CO₂ as the light is stronger.
Sugar cane has a growing period of 8 to 18 months, which is longer than that of crops such as rice, and it is cultivated throughout the year, which means that it constantly absorbs CO₂.
Generating green energy with the fibrous matter (bagasse) of sugar cane!
The first step in making sugar is to squeeze the sugar cane. The rest of the squeezed meat is called “bagasse”, and steam is produced when the boiler is run using this as fuel. By using this steam to generate turbine power, it is possible to cover all the electricity in the mill. Even so, the surplus bagasse can be sprinkled on the fields as fertilizer, so sugar cane is a very eco-friendly plant that can be used to the fullest.
What is carbon neutrality?
When a substance is burned, CO₂ is generated. However, there are vast sugar cane fields around the sugar mills where bagasse is burned, so they absorb CO₂ and circulate it into carbon.
“Zero emissions as a whole” means that the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted* is subtracted from the amount absorbed by afforestation and forest management, etc., to effectively reduce the total to zero.
* The “emissions” and “absorption amounts” of greenhouse gases here both refer to anthropogenic substances.
In order to achieve carbon neutrality, it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and preserve and strengthen the absorption effect.
What is green electricity?
Green electricity is generated from natural energy sources such as wind, solar, and biomass (biological resources). Power generation from fossil fuels such as oil and coal generate CO₂ (carbon dioxide) when generating electricity, but it is believed that power generation from natural energy does not emit CO₂ when generating electricity. In addition, it is an energy that has a low impact on the environment because it is renewable.
Environmental Policy
Fuji Nihon Corporation has established the following environmental policy and will act based on it in order to promise “sustainable biological resources” that are indispensable for realizing its purpose of “Make the world powerful with food science!”
In order to make effective use of the earth’s limited resources, we will promote energy conservation throughout the company and strive to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
We strive to develop and manufacture products and improve processes in an environmentally friendly manner.
In our business activities, we will comply with environmental laws and regulations and other requirements that we consent to.
- We will actively support local environmental activities.
- By maintaining and continuously improving our environmental management system, we will strive to reduce the environmental impact of our overall business activities and prevent environmental pollution.
We will ensure that all employees and all people who work in our organizations are fully aware of this environmental policy, and in order to achieve the policy, we will set environmental objectives and targets, which will be periodically reviewed through management reviews.
